Whatโ€™s the best piece of advice youโ€™ve received while working in events or marketing?

Working in the digital landscape, you will ALWAYS be learning and adapting, so never get comfortable with being comfortable! In regard to events, make sure you have your eye on the ball with schedules and everything that is going on around you, or you might just miss something awesome.

If you could plan any event โ€“ no budget limits โ€“ what would it be and why?

I love the highly themed, immersive events, so I would probably go with an out-of-this-world experience. With huge hanging planets, massive 3d projections, 4D simulations and anti-gravity simulators! You could take guests on a journey they would never have experienced before and will never experience again – all without actually entering our orbit.

What do you enjoy most about working in the events industry?

There’s so much to learn, and no event is the same! Events are continuously adapting, so we have to keep on top of all the innovations to offer them. When on-site, it’s always an exciting buzz, and capturing content often has to be adapted quickly – keeping you on your toes.

Whatโ€™s the best piece of advice youโ€™ve received while working in events or marketing?

Stay away from the shiny shizzle!

If you could plan any event โ€“ no budget limits โ€“ what would it be and why?

A 90sโ€“2000s Music Beach Festival exclusively for over-thirties, perfect for reliving your youth. Legendary DJs spin pop, R&B, garage, and dance hits, while tribute acts channel icons like Spice Girls and Backstreet Boys.

Guests enjoy themed zones, chill lounges, retro arcade games, karaoke, and silent discos. Beach vibes include neon lights, sand loungers, and throwback fashion. Classic cocktails, comfort food, massages, VIP cabanas, an afterparty tent, and a retro cinema complete the experience.

Itโ€™s the ultimate nostalgic escape – fun, freedom, and pure 90s/2000s joy for grown-ups ready to party like itโ€™s 1999.

What do you enjoy most about working in the events industry?

No two days are the same! Itโ€™s fast-paced, fun, and incredibly rewarding. Whether through creativity or entertainment, making people happy is what makes this job so special. After all, who wouldnโ€™t want to bring a little joy into someoneโ€™s life?

Two standout highlights at Julia Charles Event Management have been the networking events in London and Budapest. London was my first real industry networking experience – and a personal highlight when I surprised Julia by performing karaoke on stage!

In Budapest, I built a key connection with another agency, passed a lead to Michael, and saw it convert successfully. Both experiences deepened my industry understanding, strengthened my networking skills, and marked real milestones in my 18-month journey with the company.

Whatโ€™s the best piece of advice youโ€™ve received while working in events or marketing?

The best advice Iโ€™ve received is that it’s important to acknowledge mistakes and learn from them.

What do you enjoy most about working in the events industry?

When I first joined an event, I was excited to see professionals from different fields come together to create an amazing time.

To help ensure events like this continue, Iโ€™m working to make events more environmentally friendly.

Since thereโ€™s no globally agreed method for calculating GHG emissions in the event industry, itโ€™s fascinating to analyse real data and research to develop meaningful calculations.

One highlight was establishing a method for calculating utility usage at events.

Since available data varies by venue, it was challenging to align event managersโ€™ perspectives, GHG emission calculations, and prediction accuracy.

With strong teamwork and collaboration across stakeholders, we were able to develop a practical method and set a clear direction for the future.

Whatโ€™s the best piece of advice youโ€™ve received while working in events or marketing?

Treat every challenge like a plot twist and make sure the show goes on no matter what.

If you could plan any event โ€“ no budget limits โ€“ what would it be and why?

Iโ€™d love to create an unforgettable cultural festival! A whole month of amazing food, music, dance, and art from around the world. Itโ€™d be vibrant and full of energy, a place where people could truly immerse themselves in different cultures and discover new experiences.

It would take place around the world at different times, featuring celebrity appearances, from K-pop and Latin artists to pop stars, famous chefs, and basically anyone I can get on board.

What do you enjoy most about working in the events industry?

It feels awesome to be part of something that brings joy, excitement, and lasting memories to others.

Whatโ€™s the best piece of advice youโ€™ve received while working in events or marketing?

Always stay curious and adaptable – digital content and events are constantly evolving. Keep your eyes on the details, but never forget to enjoy the magic of seeing a concept come to life.

If you could plan any event โ€“ no budget limits โ€“ what would it be and why?

Iโ€™d plan a fully immersive seasonal wonderland that changes throughout the year – spring cherry blossoms, summer enchanted forests, autumn harvest festivals, and winter ice palaces. Guests would experience nature, theatre, and interactive storytelling, combining my love of immersive theming, creativity, and seasonal celebration.

What do you enjoy most about working in the events industry?

Seeing creativity come to life in real time, watching immersive themes transform spaces, and capturing content while everything is buzzing with energy. No two events are ever the same!

Transforming the old Topshop into a Winter Wonderland for Bury St Edmunds Shopping Centre. Seeing familiesโ€™ excitement and the team bring every immersive detail to life was unforgettable.

Whatโ€™s the best piece of advice youโ€™ve received while working in events?

This industry is constantly evolving; if youโ€™re not consistently learning new things and growing, youโ€™re doing something wrong.

If you could plan any event โ€“ no budget limits โ€“ what would it be and why?

As someone passionate about both the gaming and music industries, Iโ€™d love to create an event that brings the two worlds together, akin to The Game Awards.

The event would spotlight new gaming releases and announcements, host insightful panels with developers and creators, and feature live performances from artists like Twenty One Pilots, who featured on the League of Legendsโ€™ Arcane soundtrack.

What do you enjoy most about working in the events industry?

No single event is ever the same; thereโ€™s a constant mix of creativity and experimentation in every aspect of what we do, finding exciting new details in every job.

My first exhibition event with the JCEM team was one of my favourite experiences, learning about different companies and industry knowledge through panels, as well as creating social content and capturing imagery throughout the day.

Whatโ€™s the best piece of advice youโ€™ve received while working in events or marketing?

Julia’s mantra of ‘If it feels s**t, then it’s probably s**t’ – to voice your opinion so we can update processes.

If you could plan any event โ€“ no budget limits โ€“ what would it be and why?

I would love to work on a film premiere, a pop-up event for a film or something to that extent in future. I just think there would be so many great opportunities to get creative with theming and entertainment ideas!

What do you enjoy most about working in the events industry?

I love how no two days are the same. I could be working on a project that has a longer timeline while also dealing with clients who have last-minute booking requests.

There are lots of moments that I’ve enjoyed while working at JCEM. A personal highlight of mine was getting to book some horror movie characters to appear on Channel 4’s ‘The Big Fat Quiz of Everything’ 2025. It was kind of surreal to see something you’ve booked appear on TV.
