On Saturday 24th September 2022, the YouTube phenomenon, ‘The Sidemen’ took on the ‘YouTube Allstars’ in a charity football match.

This year we were asked to help plan, produce and manage aspects of the 2022 Sidemen Charity Football Match and After Party! We couldn’t wait to get started.

The Sidemen have competed since 2015, first in a charity football match called ‘The Wembley Cup’. In 2016, the Sidemen launched Sidemen F.C., completing charity football matches in 2016, 2017 and 2018. 2022 is their fourth and most recent event.

Every year this event has a huge amount of eyes on as influencers, YouTubers, TikTokers and more take part in the charity match – bringing a global audience to the event!

After being involved with the launch for XIX Vodka and ‘Sides’ (their food brand) last year, the Sidemen came to us to help organise parts of their annual Charity Football Match and an after-party for the influencers attending the event this year (2022) and additional guests.

We of course were keen to get started on creating some concepts for them to aid in their overall vision of the event.

We supported their provision of:

2022 would prove to be the most successful Sidemen Charity Football Match to date!

For this year, 2022, the Sidemen took on the YouTube Allstars. Here were the official squads:

This year in 2023, the match is taking place on Saturday 9th September at the London Stadium with fans in attendance and watching via live stream.

The 2022 Sidemen Charity Football Match: Sidemen FC vs YouTube Allstars

We worked alongside another events agency due to the scale of this event. With 27,111 guests in attendance at the football match, this was a huge event to manage.

Julia Charles Event Management assisted with planning, producing and managing the event and loved every second of it!

Booking ‘The Valley’, the football stadium for the league one football team, Charlton Athletic FC to host the football match, the tickets sold out within the first few days of being on sale!

The football match saw a huge number of influencers take part, the likes of KSI, TBJZL, Miniminter and the rest of The Sidemen, Mr Beast (with a whopping 105+ MILLION subscribers!), Speed, Noah Beck, Chunkz, Yung Filly and loads more.

This is the biggest YouTube event of the year and sees huge amount of viewers tune-in to the livestream and a huge crowd attend the event in-person.

Donations raised from the event went to four charities:

100% of the donations were given to the charities above.

The popular YouTube stars Spencer Owen (Spencer FC) and Stephen Tries were commentators of the event doing a fantastic job!

Here’s what the match looked like for the commentators:

The lineup and commentary brought fans from around the UK and Internationally to watch the game LIVE and over 2 million views on the livestream as it happened!

The star-studded football match saw performances from the one-and-only Chase and Status, along with a bunch of football freestylers and even cheerleaders to keep the crowd entertained! There were also Sidemen merchandise stands outside the stadium for fans to visit.

The very first football match the Sidemen took part in was in the 2015 Wembley Cup organised by Spencer FC where the Sidemen (Sidemen United at the time) lost 5-2 to Spencer FC. The Wembley Cup is a separate competition from the annual Sidemen Charity Football match.

The football match was the best yet – seeing 15 goals scored! It was an electrifying match with the fans loving the action-packed game.

The Sidemen scored two late goals to take the trophy and make it their third win out of four! (five if you count the 2015 Wembley Cup – a separate competition)

The Success of the 2022 Sidemen Charity Match:

  • Over 2.6m peak concurrent viewers (watching the stream LIVE as it happened)
  • Over £1,074,379 raised for charity in just 3 hours

The purpose of the event was to raise money for charity – Teenage Cancer Trust, CALM, Rays of Sunshine and M7E – the event far surpassed the £65,747 figure raised at the last Sidemen charity football match in 2018 – so it was a huge success!

Now The Sidemen Charity Football Match After Party!

To follow up on the action-packed Sidemen Charity Match, we helped organise a VIP After Party for all of the influencers, celebrities and additional guests from the Sidemen Charity Football Match to get together and catch up after the football match.

We saw 400 guests roll through to the after party!

We chose the amazing East Wintergarden venue in Canary Wharf, London to host the party.

Designing and Producing The Sidemen Charity Match 2022 After Party!

Our team aided the design, production and management of the After Party!

Here’s a quick look at the after party from initial concept and design to building and produce the after party:

Completely transforming the venue space into a black and white theme (to suit the XIX vodka brand), with dream circus and 1920s themes crossing over this.

We wanted the party to be special to mark such a momentous charity football event in the day. Our view was to create a space where the players from the day could come together and socialise and let their hair down after an action-packed day!

Our team began set up at the venue on the Thursday (22nd September), giving us until Saturday (24th September) to fully transform the venue into an unrecognisable space!

Our team put in a huge amount of hours to get this space completely transformed! We’re so proud of the results.

We had a small amount of time to turn this event space round, only given a few weeks notice to get all of the wheels moving and transforming this event space into an unrecognisable one!

Sidemen Charity Match 2023

Following the huge success of the 2022 Sidemen Charity Match, the annual event took place again in 2023 – on the 9th of September at the London Stadium!

This year round, the Sidemen team went even bigger this year with 62,000 in attendance at the physical event and millions viewing online.

And what’s unbelievable – the 62,000 tickets sold out in just an hour and a half.
