Platforms like Twitch and YouTube have been on the rise over the past few years, with creators like Ninja, Pokimane and thousands more reaching large audiences every time they go live.

From regular streams chatting to viewers to playing video games or even creating art with a familiar backdrop and setup, these streamers need to find ways to create impactful streams that stand out for their big announcements, reveals or events.

That’s why when the streaming icon Mongraal needed a livestream production concept for his Fortnite Icon Skin Reveal, the team got hard at work to create something that would stand out from his typical stream setting.

An Icon Skin is an incredible achievement for any Fortnite streamer, giving them a skin in-game for fans to purchase and support their content, making the announcement stream a valuable opportunity for a creator to make an impact.

For such a big moment, we worked hard to implement a livestream studio design that took on board Mongraal’s visions as well as our own expertise in creating moments that wow audiences online as much as they would in-person.

Let’s go behind the scenes and look deeper into our work with Mongraal, and the power of a dedicated virtual event production for streamers and even businesses looking to target new audiences.

Designing A Livestream Studio Around The Creator

One of the most important aspects of Mongraal’s livestream production was targeting the design around him as a creator.

This livestream studio design needed to be compact but high-impact, allowing it to work well on camera and still create different visual moments throughout the stream with Mongraal as the central focus.

With that in mind, we developed a 5m-wide set concept incorporating three LED screens for skin and item content, illuminated light boxes featuring Mongraal-inspired London scenarios, programmable lighting, props and scenic dรฉcor.

Our proposed lighting and screen system allowed the environment to change for different moments within the stream, including skin selections, eliminations, wins and hero reveal sequences.

Every element was thoughtfully considered with camera angles, positioning and sightlines, working together on-screen to create a fluid background that felt tailored to Mongraal as a creator.

From imagery of his skin to his logo and branding, the broadcast set design was made just for Mongraal, making it exciting for fans to discover any easter eggs or detailing throughout the experience.

Creating The Stage For A Major Fortnite Creator Reveal

Mongraal’s livestream was more than just a regular gaming stream, marking the reveal of his Fortnite Icon Skin.

Only some of Fortnite’s biggest creators have the honour of being given a skin in-game, with fans able to purchase to support their favourite streamers and YouTubers, and represent them as they play.

This kind of achievement is huge as an event in its own right, and a dedicated livestream production is a must-have to make this moment stand out from a typical stream.

With a dedicated set-up, interactive elements and visuals that captivate fans, Mongraal was able to create anticipation, excitement and a sense of occasion for his online audience that are used to his normal streaming background.

The set needed to reflect the scale and energy of the reveal to truly wow fans and keep viewers watching, all while keeping Mongraal at the centre of the experience.

Bringing The Livestream Set To Life

A lot of intricate details went into creating the perfect bespoke livestream studio production for Mongraal.

From bringing a small space to life, to the visual pops and lighting, we’re here to walk you through how we did it.

Building A 5-Metre-Wide Production Set

When considering virtual event production, it’s important to remember that viewers are limited to only what they can see on-screen.

For Mongraal, this meant creating only a 5-metre-wide set that still had impact across varying different camera angles, which we knew exactly how to do with our background in event technology services.

With such limited space, we had to get creative with the layout and design for this project, considering where Mongraal would sit in-frame alongside the background elements that could interact throughout the whole stream.

Not only was it important to deliver visual impact, but it was also integral to balance the practical requirements that viewers don’t see, such as cameras, equipment and movement from team members behind the scenes.

The final product had Mongraal front-and-centre, with LED screens and lighting that complemented him, and varying camera angles to show off intricate set detailing to make every space count.

Using LED Screens To Transform The Background

One of the biggest elements used in Mongraal’s branded livestream production were three vertical LED screens.

These stood tall in the background, showing off the icon skins and themed imagery throughout, creating an interactive element that Mongraal could use throughout.

One of the key moments in stream these were used for was the reveal itself, showcasing each skin one-by-one as Mongraal pointed to the screen and explained the core aspects of the designs.

The backdrop included even more screens too, with the bold lettering ‘USE CODE MONGRAAL’ present throughout to promote the Fortnite streamer’s in-game creator code.

Some other angles showed off cyberpunk-esque landscapes with the skin too, helping to create a more dynamic and adaptable livestream environment.

Using screens throughout was the perfect way to include branding, graphics, campaign visuals and changing content on the fly, making it perfect for all creators or brands considering their own broadcast set design.

Creating Atmosphere With Programmable Lighting

Working cohesively with the LED screens and interactive elements was our cleverly designed programmable lighting worked into Mongraal’s livestream studio design.

This lighting would shift throughout the stream with colour changes, transitions and branding to match the visual elements displayed on screens and in-game, as well as to match the tone, energy and needs of any given moment.

For streamers where background space is limited and it’s important to utilise as many interactive elements as possible, lighting is an absolute must-have with the power to completely change the vibes of a moment.

Many streamers even consider allowing their audience to change their lighting throughout to make this element more engaging for fans, though this was not offered during Mongraal’s stream where it was important to stay on-brand and consistent for the reveal.

What Goes Into Producing A Professional Livestream?

A professional livestream may look effortless to the audience watching at home, but there’s a huge amount of planning and technical consideration happening behind the scenes.

From the initial creative concept through to the final camera shot, every element needs to work together to create a seamless viewing experience.

For creators, brands and businesses looking to move beyond a standard streaming setup, professional livestream production can involve:

  • Creative Concept Development: Developing an overall visual direction that reflects the creator, brand, campaign or purpose of the livestream, ensuring the production feels bespoke rather than like a standard streaming setup.
  • Livestream Studio Design: Designing the physical environment around how it will appear on camera, considering the set’s proportions, branding, screens, furniture, scenic elements and the different shots required throughout the broadcast.
  • Camera Positioning: Planning where cameras should be placed to capture the strongest angles while keeping the presenter or creator as the focal point. Multiple camera positions can also allow the production team to move between wider environmental shots and closer, more engaging views.
  • LED Screens And Content: Incorporating LED screens or digital displays that can showcase branding, campaign imagery, product visuals, game content, animations and other graphics throughout the broadcast.
  • Lighting Design: Using programmable lighting to add depth and atmosphere to the set, whilst creating consistent lighting conditions for cameras and allowing the visual environment to change alongside different sections of the livestream.
  • Technical Production: Coordinating cameras, audio, lighting, screens, streaming equipment and control systems so every technical element works together without interrupting the live experience.
  • Set Installation: Building and installing the physical set before the broadcast, including positioning scenic elements, screens, lighting and equipment within the available space.
  • Testing And Rehearsals: Running technical checks and rehearsals before going live to test camera angles, lighting, audio, screen content, transitions and the overall flow of the production.
  • Behind-The-Scenes Logistics: Carefully planning elements audiences never see, including cable management, equipment positioning, crew movement, access requirements and how the set can be operated safely and efficiently during the livestream.
  • Designing For The Viewer: Ultimately, every decision needs to consider what the audience sees on their screen. A set can look impressive in person, but it needs to translate effectively through the camera to create the same impact online.

The result is a livestream environment that feels intentional from the moment the broadcast begins, rather than simply placing a creator in front of a branded backdrop.

This approach can be particularly powerful when the livestream forms part of a wider campaign, product launch or major announcement.

For the Mongraal project, these considerations all came together to create a production environment that could support the Fortnite Icon Skin Reveal whilst keeping the creator at the heart of the experience.

Professional livestream production involves much more than what viewers see on screen, with careful planning covering camera positioning, lighting, technical equipment, set installation and rehearsals.

From Gaming Creators To Branded Content

The production approach used for Mongraal’s Fortnite Icon Skin Reveal isn’t limited to gaming creators. The same principles can be applied to influencers, brands and businesses looking to create a more memorable and visually engaging livestream.

Whether it’s an esports activation, technology launch, influencer campaign or major social media announcement, the production environment can be designed specifically around the creator, campaign or message.

Rather than placing a presenter in front of a generic backdrop, a bespoke livestream studio gives brands the opportunity to build an entire visual identity around the experience.

For creators, this could mean developing a set inspired by their content, personality or a major moment in their career. Or alternatively, allow them the opportunity to create a set-design around a beloved game release, challenge or community moment.

For brands, it could involve incorporating campaign imagery, products, logos, animations and interactive content directly into the environment.

Not to mention, quite few brands have dared to approach the livestream space on Twitch or YouTube, making it a prime opportunity to take advantage of a new audience if done correctly.

The result is a livestream that feels considered from every angle, whilst giving audiences something visually distinctive to remember and engage with.

How Brands Can Use Livestream Production

Livestream production can be particularly valuable for brands looking to reach audiences in the digital spaces where they already spend their time.

From product launches and influencer campaigns to gaming activations and virtual announcements, a professionally designed livestream can give an online campaign the same sense of occasion as a physical event.

Brands can use livestream production to create experiences such as:

  • Product Launches: Create a studio environment designed entirely around a new product, using LED screens, branded visuals and programmable lighting to build anticipation and make the reveal feel like a major event.
  • Influencer Campaigns: Place creators within a bespoke branded environment that feels naturally integrated into the campaign, rather than simply adding a logo or product placement to their usual streaming setup.
  • Gaming Activations: Develop immersive environments around game releases, esports competitions, creator collaborations and gaming campaigns, giving audiences a production experience that matches the energy of the industry.
  • Virtual Announcements: Use a dedicated studio to deliver important announcements, launches and presentations to online audiences in a polished and visually engaging format.
  • Corporate Events: Bring professional production into conferences, presentations, sales kick-offs and internal broadcasts, creating a more engaging experience for employees, clients and remote audiences.
  • Branded Entertainment: Combine set design, digital content, lighting and live interaction to create entertaining broadcasts where the brand becomes part of the overall experience.

The set itself can become part of the campaign, giving viewers a recognisable environment that reinforces the brand every time they see it on screen.

Branded livestream production can therefore go far beyond simply making a broadcast look professional, creating a visual experience that audiences associate directly with the campaign.

Taking The Concept Into Virtual And Hybrid Events

The principles behind professional livestream production can also be taken beyond creator content and into wider virtual and hybrid events.

Virtual conferences, online launches, hybrid events and digital experiences all rely on the audience feeling connected to what is happening on screen. Without the atmosphere of a physical venue around them, the production itself becomes even more important.

A thoughtfully designed studio environment can give keynote speakers and presenters a stronger visual backdrop, whilst multiple camera angles, LED screens, lighting and graphics can help maintain the energy of the event throughout.

For hybrid events in particular, this can help ensure the online audience doesn’t feel like an afterthought. Instead, the livestream becomes a carefully designed experience in its own right, giving remote viewers a reason to stay engaged alongside those attending in person.

Could Your Creator Or Brand Benefit From A Bespoke Livestream Set?

Whether you’re part of a brand, or an online creator yourself, you should consider how a branded livestream production could be of value to you.

As new audiences exist in these dedicated online spaces, there’s value to be found in crafting a bespoke broadcast set design for your brand activation and setting up unique events for audiences to participate in.

From backgrounds to match events such as Gamescom or The Game Awards for creators co-streaming, or video game inspired environments to reflect games such as Minecraft or Overwatch for challenges, reveals and more, there’s plenty for creators to consider.

Why not even put together an incredible GTA 6 inspired set for the upcoming game launch and stand out amongst the other streamers on launch?

Brands can also implement similar ideas into their own reveals, looking at how other streamers reach their audiences and ways their livestream production could target new, younger audiences online.

After our work with Mongraal, the team at Julia Charles Event Management are ready to take on even more livestream studio design projects, and we’d love to hear from you.
