Set and stage design plays a significant (and arguably one of the most significant) roles in creating a visually captivating and immersive event.

As with any event, the initial concepts are imperative for directing your design decisions.

Creating A Stunning Event Set Design

Your set design is the foundation of your stage design – it’s effectively the area in which your stage will be placed.

As such, it needs to convey the overall appearance you want to achieve – for example, if you have an event theme – and of course with the purpose of your event.

A successful set design acts as a backdrop for your stage that enhances the functionality and appearance of your stage.

For example, if you have performances to take place on stage, DJ sets, guest speakers or presentations to make – your set should enhance this.

Get Away From Traditional Backdrops

Get The Set Lighting Right

Lighting is one of the most important tools in creating a successful event set design.

When done correctly, lighting highlights key areas on your set (and stage) and enhances the atmosphere of your event.

Project the lighting onto key props, decorations and areas of your stage to create an impactful set and stage design.

This can be through uplights, spotlights, projections and moving lights to create more layers to your design, making for a more interesting event space.

Use Bespoke Set Props and Decorations

The key to any special event space – and specifically your set and stage design – is to make it unique.

To make your set design as special as possible, look at incorporating and designing bespoke, one-off props in your set design.

We designed all of this bespoke set in-house including all of the props and decorations used within the event set and the overall event production.

Using this example, to enhance the enchanted garden themed event, we also incorporated this theme and focused on it in our set and stage design for this event.

All of the props that built up the set were created bespoke to the theme and event as we designed all of the props and decorations (including the DJ set) in-house and went on to produce the real thing.

Creating A Stunning Stage Design

Getting the visuals of your stage design is one thing, but making it practical is another game.

The layout and placement of key elements such as podiums, screens and performance areas are vital to a successful stage design.

The design needs to consider visibility for the people watching the performance on stage – the most effective way of doing this is by elevating the stage.

The stage needs to provide easy access for performers, presenters and anyone else who may need to get on the stage – therefore, the entrance and exit need to be considered and designed in a way that doesn’t hinder your design.

One way of doing this is again by incorporating a raised stage with an easy access point at the rear.

The stage needs to maximise the content and performance you want to display (usually both of these are showcased on a stage), so consider incorporating large LED screens to showcase content effectively.

You need to consider the rigging and how it can be utilised creatively to maximise your stage performances. For example, you could have rigging to allow for aerial displays and performers making for a stunning stage performance.

The purpose of the stage needs to be the centre of your design and should cater exactly to the number of people who will be on it.
