Top CNY 2026 Event Trends
Using a curated showcase of videos spotted on socials, we have a bold selection of captivating, futuristic and visually stunning Chinese New Year event trends we love (and think you will too!)
1. Futuristic Robot Dogs
One of the most smile-inducing Chinese New Year shows we came across was this futuristic robot dog meets traditional lion dancers!
Seen on @NewChinaTV in Shenzhen, these brilliant animatronic dogs don traditional Chinese lion costumes, perfectly synchronising their moves with the human performers behind them. Now thatโs a futuristic line-up taking centre stage!
2. Puning Yingge Dancers
@CGTNEurope captured these incredible Puning Yingge Dancers from Guangdong province in southern China, as they performed for London’s Chinese New Year parade.
This captivating folk dance is known as the “Hero’s Song,” and dates back to the Ming Dynasty. Combining martial arts, drama and dance, it represents a form of folk arts from the Teochew region.
These sixteen CNY public dancers, each dressed in custom costumes, painted faces and masks, donning spears and Tingge sticks, as well as drums to create this magnetic Chinese New Year event!
3. Giant Dragon Boats
This stunning giant dragon boat parades during the Chinese New Year in Guilin, Guangxi.
Festivals held for the Chinese New Year often feature decorative floats as part of parades, with some regions having religious water parades using boats decorated as dragon heads!
We will continue to see these stunning art installations for the CNY 2026 event trends, and look forward to seeing how they evolve into even more elaborate constructs.
4. Molten Firework Show
One of the most spectacular Chinese New Year shows we came across was this Molten Firework Show. Also known as ‘Da Shuhua’ (depending on region), and showcases blacksmiths or artisans heating iron and steel to extremely high temperatures.
With this, they pour or fling molten metal into the air or against a cold surface, so the molten metal explodes into shows of bright, fiery sparks – reminiscent of “fire blossoms” raining down.
@ShianghaiEyeMagic reports them as ‘iron flowers’ lighting up Chongqing. A centuries-old tradition that is a true visual spectacle, with glowing sparks, is deeply tied to festival celebrations.
We could see this being turned into a futuristic CNY event trend for 2026 by mimicking the visual effects through such vessels as digital walls. Imagine seeing sparks fly with your very own movements!
5. Chinese New Year Drone Show
This viral video of a spectacular dragon drone show at Shanghai was shared far and wide; however, it was all digitally created.
On that note, we don’t think what is showcased is an impossible feat. With the evolution of drone technology, holograms and projections, these are the types of shows that, in 2026, may no longer need to be faked.
Itโs the Chinese New Year event budget that might still need a little magic.
6. Robot Dancers
Not to be upstaged by robotic dogs, these 16 Unitree’s humanoid robots were filmed by @Cheddar for a futuristic Chinese New Year event.
We predict this will be one of the coolest CNY 2026 event trends – we simply canโt get enough of these hypnotic robots performing in perfect synchrony with traditional Chinese dancers!
Not only are we seeing the evolution of dance bots, but more robot entertainment is coming to the Chinese New Year. From realistic robot emperors to more stylised meet and greet avatar-style bots, Chinese entertainment in 2026 is set to be a futuristic and quirky blend – we can’t wait!
7. Chinese Stilt Performers
Back to a much more traditional Chinese New Year event trend, this centuries-old temple fair in Hebi City, Henan Province, welcomed these soaring stilt performances, showcased here by @HiChina.
These Chinese stilt walkers, balance high above the ground, creating a spectacle amongst the energetic marketplace. This type of Chinese entertainment can be replicated across city centres for the Chinese New Year, and makes a dazzling display of cultural heritage.
8. Augmented Reality Chinese New Year Shows
@vertixcgi showcase this captivating augmented reality dragon show superimposed on this Chinese New Year event. We think it showcases a glimpse of the possibilities of AR and VR in live events.
As AR and VR become staples in modern events, the potential for immersive Chinese entertainment is limitless. Imagine interactive experiences that go beyond a traditional show – a trend we predict will dominate Chinese New Year celebrations worldwide in 2026.
9. Chinese New Year Light Installations
These beautiful overhead light installations dazzled crowds in Harbin. Creating an immersive archway of illuminations featuring glowing lantern-style fish and organic flowing matter. We love the warmth, red and orange glow and naturalistic style of this Chinese New Year event theming.
To elevate Chinese New Year events in 2026, we can see these lighting installations being turned into fully kinetic LED sculptures, an interactive experience that blends tradition with cutting-edge technology.
10. Chinese New Year Immersive Worlds
On the subject of LED sculpture, we see Chinese New Year event trends evolving into their own immersive worlds.
Chinese New Year celebrations will only be amplified by dazzling oversized stage and set designs and project-mapped spaces. Attendees will no longer just watch in awe, but they will step into the experience.
